October Birthstone - Opal
The birthstone for October is Opal. The Opal is an unusual gemstone as it is made from hardened Silica Gel and contains 5% and 10% water. The Opal is a beautiful gemstone which gives colour play or iridescence as light reacts with the tiny Silica spheres in the Opal's structure.
Australia has been the main supplier of Opals since the 19th century, precious White Opal sources include Coober Pedy and Andamooka. Precious Black Opals are sourced from Lightning Ridge in New South Wales. Opals have been attributed with various qualities and are said to possess energetic properties and believed to bring health, purity and hope to it's wearer.
